Migration and job change: a multinomial logit approach.
نویسندگان
چکیده
A multinomial logit model of residence and job change is developed and estimated using U.S. data from the Michigan Panel Study of Income Dynamics. It is found that both housing demand and job search characteristics are significant determinants of the decision to migrate and that both equilibrium and disequilibrium forces induce migration and job change. In addition, "the data do not appear to be ordered with respect to job and residence change contingencies with the exception of changing neither job nor residence relative to all other contingencies."

Residence and Job Location Change Choice Behavior under Flooding and Cyclone Impacts in Bangladesh
Climate change enters significantly into and is shown to be a direct determinant of residence and job location change decisions. Understanding of how people’s residence and job location change choice behavior is affected and thus responds to the impacts of climate change is essential for transportation planners and adaptation decision makers. As an addition to the current literature, the main p...
متن کاملMonitoring Multinomial Logit Profiles via Log-Linear Models (Quality Engineering Conference Paper)
In certain statistical process control applications, quality of a process or product can be characterized by a function commonly referred to as profile. Some of the potential applications of profile monitoring are cases where quality characteristic of interest is modelled using binary, multinomial or ordinal variables. In this paper, profiles with multinomial response are studied. For this purpo...
متن کاملOn Rank-Ordered Nested Multinomial Logit Model and D-Optimal Design for this Model
In contrast to the classical discrete choice experiment, the respondent in a rank-order discrete choice experiment, is asked to rank a number of alternatives instead of the preferred one. In this paper, we study the information matrix of a rank order nested multinomial logit model (RO.NMNL) and introduce local D-optimality criterion, then we obtain Locally D-optimal design for RO.NMNL models in...
متن کاملMigration Networks in Senegal
This paper investigates the importance and role of migration networks in Senegal using a new nationally representative survey conducted in 2006-2007. Using a sample of 1707 Senegalese households I explore potentially differential effects of networks on international migration depending on their characteristics in terms of composition and destination. Results from logit and multinomial logit reg...
متن کاملSelection of multinomial logit models via association rules analysis
In this research, we propose a novel approach for a multinomial logit model selection procedure: specifically, we apply association rules analysis to identifying potential interactions for multinomial logit modeling. Interaction effects are very common in reality, but conventional multinomial logit model selection methods typically ignore them. This is especially true for higher-order interacti...
